Playing online is one of the activities that require a good Internet connection. Slow or bad access to the network means not being able to play properly since what happens on the game server goes at one speed and we at another. Or said in gamer slang, if we have lag, it will be difficult for us to play against others in games like Fortnite, League of Legends, Minecraft, or PUBG. And here it is key to have a good WiFi signal or have the help of devices such as a WiFi amplifier.
Ideally, connect the PC or game console directly to the router via the Ethernet cable. This way we will ensure 100% of the available connection speed. But there are many reasons why that is not possible, such as that our play area is in another room, away from the router. Or we simply seek privacy when playing online.
Be that as it may, there are many ways to get a good WiFi signal. With good Internet speed and minimal lag or latency to be able to play any online game without delays or cuts in connection.
Find the right location
Although it is not always possible, the ideal would be to place the gaming device as close as possible to the source of the WiFi signal, usually our router. Whether you play on a PC, video game console, smartphone, or tablet, the WiFi signal has a range limit. And the further, the more loss of speed.
The best option is to play in the same place where we have the WiFi signal source. If not possible, the closer the game room is, the better. And if possible, avoiding elements that interfere with the signal. Such as appliances, a monitor, mirrors, or stone walls, and walls.
Otherwise, the default WiFi signal of your router has a range of between 120 meters and 240 meters away. We know it as 2.4 GHz WiFi. For its part, we currently have a faster alternative but with a smaller range: between 58 meters and 120 meters depending on the version of the WiFi protocol used. This signal is often called 5 GHz WiFi or WiFi Plus.
Regarding the speed of each WiFi signal: the 2.4 GHz WiFi reaches speeds of between 150 and 300 Mbps depending on the distance and the devices connected simultaneously. For its part, 5 GHz WiFi can reach speeds of between 200 Mbps and 1 Gbps. Obviously, reaching those speeds will also depend on the speed contracted with your Internet provider.
Use the fastest WiFi signal
Related to the previous point, it is as important to be close to the router or source of the WiFi signal as it is to choose the appropriate signal. With 2.4 GHz WiFi, we will obtain an acceptable speed over long distances. On the other hand, if we are going to play near the WiFi source, we can bet on WiFi Plus or 5 GHz WiFi. It will guarantee us more speed in shorter distances and better network management despite having several connected devices.
At this point, we can go to the market in search of devices compatible with the newest WiFi protocol. That is if we want to benefit from the maximum speed available without saturating our local connection despite connecting different devices, the most recent protocol will be of great help.
At the time of this writing, the newest WiFi protocol is known as WiFi 6. It offers faster connection speeds and better device network management and bandwidth sharing. And even if your router does not support this protocol, you can solve it with devices such as WiFi Mesh or WiFi mesh. Basically, they act as repeaters of the signal that comes out of the router. A compatible WiFi booster can also help.
Deactivate all other devices
As we have repeated several times, the fewer devices connect at the same time, the more bandwidth we will have for us. It is one of the reasons why some players play at night. It is when less use is made of the rest of the devices.
Although the received WiFi signal is organized and distributed bandwidth among the different devices connected via router, the simplest way to ensure we have all that bandwidth is by disconnecting or pausing the rest of them.
From your mobile application Smart WiFi App, you can see all the connected devices and pause their Internet access one by one. Then you can return access to them when you finish playing or when you need them.
Restart your router
One of the oldest tips in computing is to turn a device off and on again if it is not working properly. This trick can be applied to computers, televisions, appliances, smartphones …
In the case of your Movistar Router, although it is designed to work without problems 24 hours a day without interruptions, restarting it will cause it to clean the processes. In practice, something that will take us a few seconds will allow us to better access the network.
